Tuning is the process of adjusting the tension of every string in the instrument to make it sound musical. My basic fee is $130 plus applicable taxes. It takes about an hour. Any minor repair that takes less than 10-15 minutes is usually included. Repairs that go beyond this will be discussed. If the piano cannot be tuned without further repair a minimum service charge $85 plus applicable taxes will apply.

Regulation is the adjustment of the mechanical aspects of the pianos to compensate for the effects of wear, the compacting and settling of cloth, felt, and buckskin, as well as dimensional changes in wood and wool parts due to changes in humidity.

Voicing is done after the action is regulated and the piano is tuned and usually included in regulation.

Repairs can include everything from fixing a sticky note to more complex problems. Minor repairs encountered during tuning, if not exceeding 10 or 15 minutes to fix, are included in the tuning fee. Anything beyond that needs an estimate and/or a return visit. No work will be done without your approval.

Restoring a piano entails replacing major components, such as the strings, pinblock, bridges and even the soundboard. This will return the piano to it's original glory and extend the life-span of the instrument.

Estimates: Prices quoted for estimates are valid for 6 months from the date of the estimate. The price quoted is the price you pay. By all means get a second opinion, but make sure when comparing prices that you are comparing for the same work. Technicians' opinions and prices vary.

Appraisals: Determining the actual value of a piano is not an exact science. At best, a value range can be given. If needed for insurance purposes, the appraisal value is usually for the replacement-value of a comparable new instrument.

Evaluation for purchase or sale: When purchasing a used piano an evaluation by a technician is advised. The condition of the instrument and whether the asking price is fair can be determined before you buy.
